An afternoon pick-me-up drink full of green power from Finnish nature
Wanna know what’s in the cup? 🍵 My favorite warm afternoon pick-me-up drink full of green power from the Finnish forest.
The combination of matcha tea and Finnish spruce sprouts is a guaranteed way to get some extra energy and fuel the body with vitamins and antioxidants. Spruce sprout powder is a big thing in Finland and in 2021 it was chosen as the herbal plant of the year.
Spruce sprouts are a good source of vitamin C-, K1, and vitamin A and it has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years. In folk medicine, spruce sprouts have been mainly used to prevent respiratory diseases and stomach ailments in Finland and Central Europe.
In December I went to the Finnish Christmas market in Zürich and was so happy to come across a company called Pure Nordic and its lovely owner Eva who imports and sells (in Switzerland) pure spruce sprouts powder and other dried superfoods from Finnish forests. I bought myself a bag of spruce sprouts powder and I’ve been using it almost daily for over a month now.
Here is a recipe for this energizing drink that smells like forest and helps you get through the afternoon slump. And if you add a yoga session into the equation you’ll for sure feel like a winner for the rest of the day! 🤩
Ingredients for one serving:
3 dl oat milk (or a milk of your choice)
1 teaspoon matcha tea powder
1 teaspoon spruce sprouts powder
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon bee pollen
Heat the oat milk to about 80 degrees. Pour it into a blender and add the rest of the ingredients. Blend until all ingredients are well mixed and the oat milk has become a little foamy. In Vitamix, this takes about 30 seconds at maximum speed.
Enjoy!
